Definition of wording

For your information, these are the terms we use to let you know where the dogs stand as far as availability for adoption. If we say " pending" it means we are working on an application for adoption for this dog. If we say " on trial " it means the dog has been adopted but is in the one month trial period before the adoption is considered to be finalized. If we say " adopted " it means the adoption is finalized. If we say " needs foster home " it means that the dog is up for adoption but we need to get him/her into a foster home.

Puppies coming

We have 5 little Dachshund cross puppies coming. Jemma gave birth to 4 males and 1 female on Jan 1. We will get pictures up as soon as possible. They will be available for adoption at the end of February but if you are interested please contact us soon at info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Tiki

Tiki is a 15 month old red female mini dachshund. She is a sweet girl who is very timid. She is great with the other dogs in the foster home but a little apprehensive about the people at the moment. She is warming up a bit more every day. She needs work with her housebreaking. She is crate trained so housebreaking shouldn't be too difficult. She has had issues with biting in her previous home but has not made any attempt to bite in her foster home. She needs lots of TLC and patience. Watch for updates as we get to know her a bit better! For more info on Tiki contact info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Update on Tiki

Tiki has come a long way in 6 days. As it has been very cold we introduced her to the pee pads and she has already got the idea and is peeing on them every time. We still need to work on the pooping but it's good progress! She is also warming up to her foster people and loves to sit on a lap or cuddle with the other dachshund in the house. She is a real sweety. Still no biting either. It's amazing how quickly things can change!

Nico and Casey

Nico and Casey came to us together. They are currently in a foster home in Calgary. The foster family are enjoying them and find them easy to have around with their own dogs. They think that they might be alright if we separated them as long as there are other dogs in the house. Please look at their individual bios for a bit more info on both of them.

Nico

Nico is a 7 year 10 month old red smooth male mini dachshund cross. He came in with Casey. They are a bonded pair and we would like them to stay together although we might consider separating them to the right homes. He is a sweet natured, very mellow boy who loves to cuddle. He also loves to play with his toys! He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and fit in very easily. He is housebroken and crate trained. Watch for updates on Nico. For more info contact info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Casey

Casey is a 5 year 10 month old female chiweenie. She is small - only about 6 lbs. She came in with Nico. They are a bonded pair and we would like them to stay together although we would consider separating them to the right homes. She is the more dominant of the 2. She likes to play and gets along well with the other dogs in the foster home. It sounds like she has a bit of the chihauhau personality!! She is housebroken and crate trained. Watch updates on Casey. For more info on Casey contact info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Lola

Lola is a blind 6 year old Black and Tan Dachshund. Don't let her blindness fool you; this girl can really move about using her nose. She loves to sleep in her crate at night and loves to cuddle during the day. She needs a home that will understand her and give her the time to get to know you; smell you first before moving her etc.... :0) She would probably do better without small children in the house. The children need to be old enough to understand that they need to be careful around her and not to startle her as she cannot see them. She is a beautiful Black and Tan girl who will warm her way into your heart in a minute; she is that sweet. As long as you take her out after her naps and her meals, she doesn't seem to have any accidents. She must be carried up and down the stairs to go outside or wherever there are stairs! Lola is being fostered in Edmonton.  For more info on Lola contact info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Odie

Odie is a 9 month old Standard dachshund mix. She is about 10 inches tall at the shoulder. Her coat is smooth and red with a few white markings. She has already figured out the dog door and has had no messes in the house. She travels well and seems to be a quick learner. She is getting along well with the other dogs in the foster home. She seems to be good natured and pleasant to have around. Odie is being fostered in Edmonton. For more info on Odie contact info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Lilly

Lilly was born on Sept 15, 2010. She is a chocolate dapple mini smooth. She is experiencing some back issues. She is receiving acupuncture therapy and we are hopeful that she will recover completely. We have decided to put her up for adoption now as she is responding well to her therapy.  She has a very sweet nature and seems to love everyone including the cats!! She is a little bit fearful but her foster home is exposing her to lots of new things to help her get over some of her fears. Lilly does exhibit some submissive urination but is better once she knows you. She has some housebreaking issues due to her condition at this time. Watch for updates on sweet little Lilly!!

Update on Lilly. Lilly is doing really well with her acupuncture treatments. The vet is very pleased with her progress. She still has a way to go but is improving slowly. She will need to continue with the treatments occasionally. She has some bowel incontinence but does fairly well with her bladder. The vet thinks that the bowel issues will correct themselves soon. She does have some issues with submissive and excitement peeing but is slowly getting better. She does go outside if she is taken out every 4 hours or so. She is the sweetest little girl you can imagine!!Lilly is being fostered in Innisfail. If you are interested in Lilly and have the patience to deal with her problems, get in touch with us at info@albertadachshundrescue.com

Monty

Monty was born in 2005 so he is around 6 years old now. He is a purebred cream tweenie who would love to find his forever home soon. He is a very handsome dog!!
Monty has been with us for over a year now. He has come a long way in the last year. He will warm up to people much faster now but still does not like to be picked up especially by strangers. He is still a timid boy who would like a stable environment with a routine that does not vary much. He cannot go to a home with cats or other small animals. He would do best with a female dog as a companion. A daily walk would do him wonders and a dog door would be a bonus. Work would have to be done on his house breaking. Patience would be needed to deal with his insecurities and timid nature. Monty is currently in Lousana but still needs a foster home.

Monty still has a high prey drive and cannot go to a home with cats., birds, etc.  I also would not put monty with a home with small kids due to his timid nature.
