Ready to adopt?
ADR DOES NOT ADOPT DOGS OUT ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.
ADR always tries to find the perfect match between dogs and potential homes. That means that we might not contact you until we have a dog that fits your family. Please be patient and make sure you provide us with the best information you can! If we don't have a dog that fits your family and situation when you submit your application, please check back on our web site and follow us on Facebook for information about other dogs as they become available for adoption.
We receive dozens of applications each week, and recently have been receiving even more! It is impossible for us to respond individually to each application. However, if you are a good fit for one of our dogs, we will reach out. If you don't hear from us, don't despair! There could be another pup in the near future that might be just for you...
Fees and other information can be found here.

Adoption process
If you are interested in adopting a dachshund from Alberta Dachshund Rescue, here is how it works:
1. Fill out the General Application to Adopt
This form is long and contains all of the basic information needed about potential adopting homes and MUST be on file before applying to adopt a specific dog. At any given time, we are probably working with numerous interested parties, so we need a completed application form (instead of a phone call or email) to ensure each application is given the appropriate attention. (The General Application to Adopt can be found below.)
2. Apply for a specific dog. (Optional)
If you have a specific dog that you would like to apply for, please make sure that the website says the dog is available for adoption before applying. Submitting this form will alert ADR that you are interested in adopting a specific dog. Please know that we can receive dozens of application forms for each available dog. You will only hear back from us if your home looks like it could be a perfect fit for that particular dog's needs. If you don't hear back from us, please feel free to submit another form for a different dog is there is one that you feel would be a good fit for your family. (The form to apply for a specific dog can be found at the bottom of this page.)
3. The specific application to adopt form is assigned to a volunteer.
This is when your previously submitted General Application to Adopt will be checked for verification of the veterinary and personal references you provided. The results are kept strictly confidential between you and ADR. If your application appears to be a good match for the dog you applied for, someone from ADR will reach out by phone or email.
4. We arrange to visit you at your home.
Dachshunds, like any other breed, have particular needs and personality traits, so an ADR volunteer will visit you to discuss the suitability of your home for a dachshund as well as the pros and cons of having one in the family. We want you to understand exactly what you are signing up for before you adopt any dog in our care!
5. Arrangements are made for you to visit the dog you are interested in at its foster home depending on where the dog is located.
We encourage you to make more than one visit to a dog you are seriously considering. The foster parents will assist you in determining if the dog under their care is the right one for you. During your visit(s), the dog's response to you is also evaluated. This matching process is critical and should be part of any pet acquisition.
6. You take your potential fur-ever buddy home for a 30 day trial period.
If everything works out, you will be able to take your pup home for a 30 day trial period. Anytime within that period, the dog may be returned to ADR and your adoption fee will be refunded.
If for any reason, you cannot keep the dog after the initial 30 day trial, it MUST be returned to ADR.
The adoption fee will not be refunded.
