tater - ADOPTed!
Tater is an 11-month-old pup who is very sweet and has lots of love to share. He is great with kids and other dogs. He barks minimally which makes him suitable for apartments dwellers. He loves to snuggle with you on the couch, but also loves to go out on his walks. Tater is working on his potty training and manners. He does tend to be protective of his food as well, but has been doing great at his foster home.
This pup has a few special needs. Tater is partially blind in his right eye, and does have some skeletal deformities, especially in his back legs. He has a higher risk of developing degenerative, joint disease and hip dysplasia, so he will need higher level of care later in life.
Tater loves to play with toys, he runs and shakes them when he is very happy! He is the biggest, snuggle bug and loves to give kisses. He is a very special boy, his foster family loves him, and hoping he finds his fur-ever family soon!
Before you make that final decision to adopt, please make sure you have read our information About the Breed and Top Reasons for Dachshund Surrender. ADR does NOT home dogs on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each application is looked at carefully to find the best possible match for each dog.

Mays & Ace - accepting appications for adoption
Mays & Ace are amazing dogs that deserve an amazing home that will love them unconditionally. They would prefer a home where they could snuggle up in the bed with their new owners/parents, if it’s not too much to ask! Mays & Ace are closely bonded and will need to go to a new home together. They both have occasional seizures, which the vet has not found a reason for.
Both Mays & Ace are good with children. They need to be in a house (not a condo or townhouse) as they are both barkers. Both are very smart dogs and learn new routines quickly (except no barking!) and they are both house trained. They will do best in a home where they are the only dogs, as Mays can be dominant and protective. |
Mays is tiny 4-year-old dachshund, but she’s feisty! It may take a bit of time to earn Mays' trust, but once she starts feeling safe, she won't leave your side. Mays can be a bit over protective of those she loves, especially her brother, Ace. Mays will be protective of her owner and any children in the home. Mays loves children and has a huge amount of patience for them. She normally falls behind on cuddles because her brother hogs it all. Mays normally does not ask for cuddles, but will give you this look that makes your heart feel that you need to snuggle her!
Ace is a 4 1/2 year old dachshund snuggle bear! He will do just about anything to get a pet and is perhaps also the most trusting of the two. Ace will warm up to anyone within minutes and he is the gateway to Mays’s heart. He’s the most gentle baby. Ace will benefit from a house with minimal stairs, as he has a little trouble going down the stairs. Ace has a bit of blurred vision on one side and sometimes may bark if he does not recognize you. Ace may need his treats closer at times so he can see them!
Before you make that final decision to adopt, please make sure you have read our information About the Breed and Top Reasons for Dachshund Surrender. ADR does NOT home dogs on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each application is looked at carefully to find the best possible match for each dog.

Rex - accepting applications for adoption
Rex is a 6-year-old red doxie with lots of energy and so much love to share.! He is great with kids, other dogs, cats and his humans. He loves to snuggle and be the center of attention.
Rex has IVDD but still has full functionality of his rear legs at this point. He has lost function in his back legs 3 times, but with therapy and lots of love, he has come back and able to walk on his back legs every time. (Learn more about IVDD.)
Rex loves his toys (and will remove every squeaker he can) chasing toys when you throw them. He is a snuggle bug, gives kisses, and is very loyal. He is very lovable and cuddly and waiting for his fur-ever home!

Charlie - Accepting applications for adoption
Charlie is a 6 year old dapple who is very lovable and protective. He loves children, other dogs, cats, and his humans. He has IVDD and is paralyzed from about the mid back down. Charlie loves walking and running in his wheel chair but is just as happy to forego the wheel chair and drag himself around. (Learn more about IVDD.)
Charlie is in a belly band full time as he is incontinent and sometimes needs help with his bowels. He loves napping but his favourite is to be in your lap and getting all the snuggles he can get. He loves to play and his favorite toys are squeaky toys. He loves to play tug with anyone that will give him the chance.
Charlie loves water and if you have a small pool and throw a ball or anything that floats (frozen fruit and vegetables) or other toys into it, he will bounce around making sure to get all the toys, balls, fruits and vegetables as fast as he can.
Charlie loves to give kisses and smiles all the time. He is a very special boy and is looking for his forever home.

Charlie gets along really well with other dachshunds. He does take a bit to warm up to humans but once trustful, enjoys a cuddle on the couch. He seems to especially gravitate towards men. Charlie enjoys being outside.

acorn- not yet accepting applications - still getting to know her!
Acorn is a little girl at only 6 lbs. She is 13 years young! Once we get to know her needs a little better, she will be available for adoption. Stay tuned!
Molly - Pending adoption - not accepting applications at this time
Molly is a 6 year old lovable but prickly girl. She loves her people and will cuddle and snuggle all day if given the chance. In a home setting she can take a bit to warm up. Molly is FULL of energy despite not having use of her back legs. That does not slow her down though. Get her into wheels and watch your toes as she ZOOMS. The therapists at the Canine Fitness Centre have been working on building up her core muscles and strengthening her legs. If Molly has some food or a favourite toy, she will resource guard. She would do well as an only dog or with other dogs more on the submissive side. Molly needs to be in a house, not a condo or apartment, as she is loud!

Happy Tails!
Kody - adopted
Kody was our fun loving, little unicorn! With his adorable little puppy bounces and playfulness, it's hard to believe this little man is 10 years old! Kody is the happiest when he gets to wrestle with his foster siblings or humans. Occasionally he'll also entertain himself with whatever toy he finds to run off with. He rarely has a word to say (shocking for a Doxie!) and is friendly with all people and dogs. Though still working on his house training, he's doing better and better every day. Kody is prone to sebaceous cysts. They are the harmless bumps found on his skin. Our little man also seems to have a serious heart murmur and is seeing a cardiologist for this.
Valerie - adopted

Our sweet Valerie has been adopted into a wonderful home. She even started to walk again! Her skin got better and her hair came back, so she now looks more like a dog and less like a house hippo! This girl needed a special home to help her continue her road to recovery. Yay, Valerie!
Padme - adopted!
Paddy is a 11-year-old dark and tan female miniature dachshund who is now happily living her best life!.
Phynn- ADOPTED
Phynn (or Phynny) is a lovely 5 year old, neutered male. He came into ADR in late August when he presented signs of IVDD. He had lost full use of his back legs as well as developed incontinence.
Over the course of almost three months, his foster mom has taken Phynn to the holistic vet for acupuncture and laser therapy treatment. She is happy to report that Phynn has regained at least 90% of his mobility, and he’s able to walk again and even “gallop.” But due to this, he very much dislikes walking on hard floors as his back legs won’t get grip. So it would be best if his new home had carpeting or rug runners (or yoga mats!) to allow him to walk.
While super sweet and loving, Phynn suffers from extreme separation anxiety. If you start getting your coat on and hears your car keys jingle, he will let you know that he doesn’t want you to go anywhere. Once you do leave your house, he is ok and is non destructive.

wilbur - Adopted
Wilbur is the sweetest, happiest boy ever!!! He is a senior dachshund (we think about 12-years-old) who is a huge cuddle bug and loves to be constantly by your side. Wilbur loves walks, car rides and any food - even fruit and veggies. He gets along great with other dogs and is not much of a barker. At bedtime he likes to snuggle in beside you under the covers and wakes up with his tail wagging. Wilbur is a pretty easy-going dachshund who is going to make a family very happy!
EBONY (ALSO KNOWN AS DERPY) - ADOPTED
Ebony (also known as Derpy) is a really sweet little guy who gets along well with everyone he meets, including children and other dogs and cats. Ebony is 10-years-young and loves being outdoors and going for walks - and camping! Ebony is housebroken but is still learning how to let his people know that he needs out to do his business, so offering regular trips outside will help him to avoid accidents. Ebony has had lots of dental work done in the past and now has a bit of a snaggletooth, which just adds to his personality! This very loyal and loving pup is ready for his forever home!

OLLIE - ADOPTED

Ollie is a handsome 5-year-old standard Dachshund (32 pounds) currently being fostered in Winnipeg. Ollie is looking for his new family, preferably one where there are no young children and he can be the only dog. Ollie's short life has taught him to be distrustful of humans and other dogs and it takes him a while to accept new people in his life. Because of this, Ollie will require an experienced owner to work with him and help him learn new ways of getting along with others. The hope is that because Ollie is in the Winnipeg area, that we will be able to find his new home there. This is what else we know about Ollie:
"My name is Ollie. I am a happy dog that enjoys lots of love, relaxing, structure and training. I am house trained and able to do tricks like sit, stay, down and shake a paw. However, I may have selective hearing when it comes to basic commands when treats are not involved but will do my best to follow through with commands with guidance.
I love walks and behave nicely when on a leash. When I am at home, I like to take it easy in my dog bed but will look for an opportunity to sneak on the couch for snuggles and affection. I may get along with people and dogs, but I do have trust issues, so I need the space and time to warm up to new environments or situations. Also, when I am overwhelmed with things or the environment at home, I will go to my safe space aka my living quarters to decompress.
I have no issues being confined in a closed area for hours when the hoomans need to step out for a couple hours. I may whine initially when they leave but I will head to my bed for a siesta so that I can dream about treats. A fenced backyard is pawsome because I like to relax and soak up the sun for hours or keep the hoomans company."

VINNY & PIPER - ADOPTED
Vinny is a regal 12-year-old, but don't let his age fool you. This handsome chocolate dapple boy is still plenty active and loves a good tug-o-war. He is spry and enjoys a leisurely walk. He seems to be good around other dogs but is also fine on his own or with his favorite muse, Piper. Vinny loves to cuddle with mum or just slip under the blankets with Piper for well deserved naps. Just be careful where you sit though! Vinny is always a gentleman and has a lovely gentle spirit that is so easy to have around.
Piper is as sweet as they come. This little 7-year-old lady has abundant energy and is always up for some games or just entertaining you with her vivacious, energetic behaviours. She loves to play fetch and tug-o-war too and never says no to a cuddle. This little girl is an amazingly easy going pup and will take on the energy of any environment she is in. Piper really lives in the moment but is truly a little clown.
Piper and Vinny are wonderful companions. Their previous owner has them very well trained and it shows in all of their behaviours. Both are house trained, good doorbells, a great welcome committee but they settle quickly. They are very flexible in regards to the time spent with them. Both Piper and Vinny have had their vet checks and are healthy, but Vinny has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart, which will likely require medication for the rest of his life.
As a bonded pair, it is truly heartwarming to watch Vinny and Piper interact and care for each other. Their future fur-ever owners will be fortunate indeed!

Jessie - adopted
Meet Jessie! This handsome love bug is 11 years young and goes in for a dental on August 25th. Once he’s feeling better he will be holding auditions for his retirement couch.
Bella & Bandit - Adopted
Both Bella & Bandit have amazing temperaments and love attention. This brother and sister pair will be turning 5 years old on November 12, 2021.
Bella loves everybody! She is good with cats and loves to snuggle with dogs and humans. Bella enjoys her beauty naps but is quick to get up when it is time to eat. Then she is all full of energy and heads to the kitchen full speed. Bella is paralyzed with IVDD and uses a cart to get around outside. As with most dogs, Bella lives in the moment and is a happy dog looking for her forever family. Bella will require special care, including someone who will express her bladder a few times each day. Bella can pee on her own but it is usually when she is excited. She will need someone willing to learn how to express her bladder two or three times each day. |

Bandit is a happy-go-lucky pup who loves people and enjoys playing with the cat! Bandit is house trained but does have the occasional accident in the house. Bandit recently had a bout with IVDD and received treatment right away. He is once again walking and well on his way to a full recovery. Bandit loves playing with and chasing toys that are thrown for him and is a wonderful brother and companion to Bella.
We are taking adoption applications for Bella and Bandit who must be adopted together. Their new family will need to be aware of the IVDD, symptoms, and how to be proactive.
ADR does NOT home dogs on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each application is looked at carefully to find the best possible match for each dog.

BENNY - ADOPTED

Benny is a 9-year-old senior dachshund who is looking for a forever home where he can be the only dog.
Benny is super lovable, gentle, and seems happiest when he can be around people to play with and have lots of snuggles under a blanket. His ideal family would have no young children and be ready to give 150% of their attention to him. They must love playing fetch and going for car rides and walks.
Benny is an active senior fellow and will want to be in a home that can make sure he can get his daily exercise. Benny is okay with other children as long as they are respectful.
